How to send PUTTY settings between computers

PART 1: How to send the PUTTY Settings( The database and server addresses which you have loaded into the putty for secure connecting to DB and SERVER via remotely )  between computers.

Today one of my colleagues asked me in office , is there any way to export all my PUTTY Settings
to another system because she will going to change her current used ThinkPad and so she needs to do all the same changes in her new ThinkPad.

I started Googling and tell you what 'Google is just a superb media" which make your thought process into reality. And  succeeded to find out the solution. And here are the steps to do so.

If you want to know about the PUTTY please go via my blog's link because I have discussed  about PUTTY on my previous post. Please follow the below link.

It's not an easy task to take out all the comfort settings for each SSH Connection everytime when i changes my system. There must be a way to export the saved links or called addresses directly into my system. And here are the steps how you will do it.

Step1.  For exporting out all the settings the very first step is go to Start button --> RUN ---> and type regedt32

Step2.  It will open the Registry  Directory .

Step3:  As you see there are  5 directories are present under Computer as ROOT.

Here you need to expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER field by clicking the little inverted triangular symbol just beside the folder icon.

Scroll down till you find "Software" Key  as shown in the below snap.

Step4.  Expand the Software Field Icon and scroll down to choose the Simon Tatham where the putty settings are resided.

Step5. Now we are going to export all the key and settings that are attached to that registry. For this ,
Right click on the Simon Tatham and click on EXPORT from the menu .

Step6: Save the file in your hard disk . Just check whether the file has saved in the .reg extension  or not .   I have named it putty_config .You can save it with your lovers name .NO ISSUE!! Important is to identified the file when you will use it in future.

Step7: Now you are done. The next is to take that saved file(putty_config.reg) into your new system and  paste in any location. But please shutdown the putty first(ow it may throw some error) before you are proceeding the below tasks.

Double click on it

Step 8: Might be you will get an error message starts by 'Adding information can change nad delete values ..........'  but just ignore the message and click on YES.

Step9: Also will prompt you a message the keys and values contained in 'c:\........\putty_config' have been successfully added into the registry.

You are done . Check whether you have all those settings and keys in the New PC 's putty .I guess you feel top of the world because you have did it and don't forgot to thanks me....hahhahhahaaa.....

Have Fun ......
