Create Desktop Shortcut Icons for SHUTDOWN, RESTART, HIBERNATE, LOCKING in Windows 7 & Vista

In Today's Technical era everyone want to save their time and make the things to be shortcut.
Our day starts with the System-Reboot and end with the System-Kill. So this blog is all about how to make shortcut icons for our daily activities in the system( like of shutdown, restart, sleep and locking the work station).

Instead of clicking Start --> selecting Shutdown or Restart ,you can create Desktop Shortcut Icon which automatically shutdown ,restart,Hibernate and lock your computer with simple double click to the .exe file.

SHUTDOWN ICON

1. Right Click on an empty area in your desktop.

2. Select New from the Menu Items and After that choose shortcut.

3. An window will pop-up In-front of you and type " shutdown -s -t 00 " (without quotes). Click      Next.

4. Another Window will come type" shutdown " (without quotes)  and click Finish.

If you want to give some new icon to your shortcut then follow the path.

5. Right click on the shortcut (shutdown) icon just generated , Select Properties , Click the change icon Button and a new window will generated (ignore it click on ok) and last choose your favorite Icon.(Might be a love symbol..just kidding).

 Important Notice:

"shutdown -s -t 00" states that when you are going to click on that shortcut ,it doesn't wait even a sec. It will suddenly shutdown your system but if you want to wait for sometime then give your sec over there like:" shutdown -s -t 10 " ( It will provide 10 seconds warning before it gets shutdown your system . Choice is yours )

You are done.

HIBERNATE ICON

1. Right Click on an empty area in your desktop.

2. Select New from the Menu Items and After that choose shortcut ,like in below image.

3. An window will pop-up In-front of you and type " shutdown.exe  -h " (without quotes). Click      Next.

4. Another Window will come type" shutdown " (without quotes)  and click Finish.

5. For changing the icon of your hibernate.exe shortcut just follow the above step no 5. and you are done.

Notice:  The above hibernate shortcut icon only be worked out when you have hibernate enabled on your machine. Otherwise it will not worked.

RESTART ICON

The steps are same for all .Here I just mentioned the command that you follow to make the restart shortcut icon for you.

In the box Just type " shutdown -r -t 00" (without quotes)  (Again 00 means no wait-sudden restart...You can put there whatever the seconds we want to make wait before it gets restart.).

LOCKING WOKSTATION ICON

COMMAND BE:     Rundll32.exe User32.dll,LockWorkStation

SLEEP COMPUTER

The command to do so:  rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0

Shortcut for logging off in XP:

Shutdown -L

 Thanks and Have Fun....
